Other people ave already blogged this, but I’ve put this here so I don’t forget!  Seeing as apparently you need AD for anything other than Standalone Sharepoint installation on SharePoint 2010 (BTW, I haven’t verified this myself, just read it around the blogsphere …) , I thought I’d dig out Sourav Dutta’s great link on how to connect to the SQL Embedded database using SQL Server Management Studio, just incase you need to have a delve around.
